Elevated Service Reservoir (ESR)

For storage of large quantities of liquids like water, oil, petroleum, acidand sometime gases also, containers or tanks are required. These structures are made of masonry, steel, reinforced concrete and pre stressed concrete.Out of these, masonry and steel tanks are used for smaller capacities. Thecost of steel tanks is high and hence they are rarely used for water storages.Reinforced concrete tanks are very popular because, besides the construction anddesign being simple, they are cheap, monolithic in nature and can be made leak proof.Generally no cracks are allowed to take place in any part of the structure ofLiquid Retaining R-C.C. tanks and they are made water tight by using richer mix(not less than M 30) of concrete. In addition some times water proofing materialsalso are used to make tanks water tight.

In case of high-rise structures, the structures are three dimensionally modeled, and subjected to dead, live, wind and earthquake loads as specified in the relevant codes. Also its deflection response to the loads is studied, and structure modified to suit serviceability requirements. Lateral sway of the structure when subjected to wind and earthquake loads, is studied, and is controlled within permissible limits through optimum use of shear walls and elements. The analysis is through the versatile Finite element methodology to eliminate the parallax between assumed structural behavior and the actual structural response. Also it helps us to accurately predict the response of high span and other complex structures, for better design.
